The water pump is broken. Even the timing belt needs to be replaced

According to the age and mileage of the car, it is not difficult to find out that the timing belt of the car owner has obviously aged; If driving continues, the risk of sudden strike of timing belt is relatively high.

The water pump of the vehicle is driven by the timing belt, and the timing drive system must be removed before replacing the water pump. Compared with replacing the water pump separately, the labor cost of replacing the timing belt at the same time is basically not increased, and the profit is also small. From the perspective of profit seeking alone, repair garages are more willing for owners to come into the shop again to replace the timing belt.

That is to say, when replacing the water pump, the timing belt is also replaced, which directly saves the owner the labor cost of replacing the timing belt separately. In addition, the price of the timing belt in some cars is cheaper than the labor cost.

In addition, it is worth noting that if the water pump is replaced alone for a short time, the timing belt suddenly goes out of action due to aging (timing gear jumping, breakage, etc.), not only the timing drive system needs to be disassembled in the factory for a second time, but also the fault phenomenon of “jacking valve” may occur, which may damage the engine.

Once this happens, the owner may mistakenly think that this failure is caused by the replacement of the water pump, and that the loss should be borne by the repair garage, thus causing a dispute. Similarly, when the timing belt is aging and needs to be replaced, even if the water pump does not show obvious failure, the timing belt and water pump should be replaced at the same time.

The design life of the drive belt, water pump and their related components are similar, and they work together.

If one of the components is the first to fail, we should not kill it in the name of “a pioneer”, but should regard it as a “whistler”, and pay attention to it, so that the entire system can be collectively “honorably laid off”. Otherwise, the mixed use of new and old parts will affect the matching of parts, which is likely to lead to incongruity in their mutual work, thus greatly reducing the service life of all components, and even short-term secondary repair.

On the other hand, it will not be long before another core shows signs of failure. If one core is replaced one by one, the maintenance cost, waiting time, safety risk, etc. will be far greater than two. Therefore, the complete replacement is the wisest choice for the owner and the repair shop!
